While doing an implementation at a client we ran into an issue where the string editor pops up every time someone double clicks on an entry field even one with a data validation on top of it. They want this disabled as a requirement of go-live but it isn't possible at this time.
If you create a report and want to enable the string editor you use a past data function and then you can replace the underlying formula and the string editor still pops up going forward. If you already have the string editor popping up on a field and want to disable there is no out of the box way to do it. It might be a nice feature for some but to have a feature that can be enabled without a way to disable it if you don't want it is something that should be resolved.
