Something to consider for a beginner friendly assistance to create a canvas: Instead of creating a component (combobox), this could be simplified the following way: The user just picks a dimension from a given list and drag & drops it onto the canvas where he wants to have it. Once released, the combobox is created automatically with all necessary settings/properties (name, data...).
If the canvas would work in such a way, that variables are not necessary for charts/ tables anymore (other ida/suggestion), then this would become very simple for users to create basic reports.
Remark: It would be very beneficial and convinient, if variables don't have to be created/used in order to create a canvas or report. If a combobox and a dynatable or chart share the same dimension, the standard behavior should be, that changing the selection in the combobox should apply this selection also to charts/tables on the canvas. Just like other BI software works there. That would really simplify things dramatically. (it can be still an option to activate variables or deactivate the mentioned behavior to use the "old way" of linking everything through variables).
