Implement a Maintenance Mode to Temporarily Disable User Login

Overview:

To improve system stability and ensure data integrity during planned maintenance activities, it is recommended to introduce a configurable "Maintenance Mode" setting within Jedox. This feature would allow administrators to temporarily disable user logins, preventing access to the application during critical updates or system changes.

Proposed Enhancement:

Introduce a system-wide setting in the Jedox Administration interface that enables administrators to:

  • Activate Maintenance Mode: When enabled, all non-admin users attempting to log in will be shown a customizable maintenance message without getting access to the system.

  • Customize Notification: Allow admins to define the message displayed to users, including expected downtime and contact information.

  • Whitelist Admin Access: Ensure that system administrators can still log in during maintenance to perform necessary tasks.

  • Schedule Maintenance Windows (optional): Provide the ability to schedule maintenance periods in advance, automatically enabling and disabling login restrictions.

Benefits:

  • Prevents user activity during sensitive updates, reducing the risk of data corruption or incomplete transactions.

  • Enhances communication with end users by providing clear, consistent messaging during downtime.

  • Improves overall system reliability and user experience.
