Visual Differentiation Between Manually Entered and Rule-Calculated Cells

Overview:

To enhance data transparency and user experience within Jedox, it is proposed to introduce a visual indicator system that clearly distinguishes manually entered values from rule-calculated values at the cell level. This would help users quickly understand the origin of data in a report or planning template, reducing confusion and improving data validation workflows.

Proposed Enhancement:

Introduce a feature that allows cells on the reports/views to be visually annotated based on their data source:

  • Manual Input Cells: Display a small icon (e.g., a pencil symbol), a subtle background color, or a tooltip indicating "User Input".

  • Rule-Calculated Cells: Display a different icon (e.g., a gear symbol), or tooltip indicating "Calculated by Rule".

  • Toggle View Option: Provide a toggle in the toolbar or settings to enable/disable these visual cues for a cleaner view when needed.

Benefits:

  • Improved Clarity: Users can instantly identify which values are editable and which are system-generated.

  • Faster Troubleshooting: Easier to trace data discrepancies or unexpected results.

  • Enhanced User Confidence: Promotes trust in the system by making data behavior more transparent.

  • Training Aid: Helps new users understand the structure and logic of planning templates more intuitively.

As a new jedoxian who has worked with other epm solutions, this feature is necessary ! It helps both users and development teams debug data incoherences in a quicker way !

I would also add the following improvement: Enable the "trace cell value" function for report cells, that are not open for entry. Currently it is only possible to do a trace, when in the designer or if the cell is open for entry in the report view.

Hi - can this not be achieved with conditional formatting?
