Add a Web Widget to Canvas

Description

It would be highly valuable to introduce a Web Widget in Jedox Canvas, allowing users to embed external web content, custom web applications, and interactive components directly within dashboards and planning applications.

The widget could support two sizing modes:

  • Fixed Size Mode: Users define a specific width and height to display web content in a controlled layout.

  • Responsive Mode: The widget automatically adapts to the available space within the Canvas, enabling modern responsive design principles and ensuring an optimal user experience across desktops, tablets, and mobile devices.

Why This Matters Even More in the AI Era

With the rapid adoption of AI-powered coding assistants, creating custom HTML, JavaScript, and web applications has become significantly easier and more accessible. Business users and developers can now generate sophisticated web components, data visualizations, and interactive tools in minutes.

A Web Widget in Jedox Canvas would unlock the full potential of this trend, especially when combined with Jedox AI. Users could leverage AI to quickly generate custom scripts, interfaces, and business applications, then embed them directly into Canvas without requiring additional development platforms.

To maximize the value of this feature, the Web Widget should provide native integration with Canvas variables and named ranges, allowing:

  • Reading and writing variables.

  • Accessing named ranges and data sources (input / output)

  • Triggering Actions

Benefits

  • Modern and dynamic dashboard design with enhanced navigation capabilities.

  • Seamless integration of third-party web applications, reports, and business tools.

  • Ability to create AI-generated custom components directly within Jedox.

  • Extension of Canvas capabilities beyond standard widgets.

  • Greater flexibility for building modern, interactive business applications.

  • Improved support for responsive and mobile-friendly designs.

  • Enhanced value of Jedox AI through practical code generation and application-building scenarios.

  • Integrating corporate portals, pages, documentation, tutorial videos, etc.

Expected Outcome

This enhancement would transform Jedox Canvas into a more open and extensible application platform. By combining embedded web technologies, responsive design, and AI-assisted code generation with direct access to Canvas variables and named ranges, organizations could rapidly create highly customized planning and analytics experiences while staying entirely within the Jedox ecosystem.

In summary :

a Web Widget would significantly increase the flexibility and extensibility of Jedox Canvas while enabling organizations to take full advantage of AI-generated code and modern development practices.
